The Northwest Kansas Conservation & Environmental Alliance is made up of the the district managers from the 9 Northwest Kansas Counties. That includes Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Wallace, Logan and Gove counties.
We have two major projects each year. The first is our Kids Conservation Round Up held in Colby at the Colby Community Building. This day focuses on teaching children about water conservation, farm safety, forestry, soil erosion and soil health, and the food chain. There are a total of 9 sessions through out the day. The event is for 4th grade students from 18 area schools. This year 383 students attended. We could not accomplish such a great event without support from the following sponsors: Colby Canvas, Western State Bank, Farm & Ranch Realty, Farm Credit of Western Kansas, Sharp Brothers Seed Company, Star Seed Company, Decatur County Farm Bureau, Western Prairie RC&D and the respective conservation districts.
The second is Women In Denim. Women in Denim is an annual conference promoting rural Kansas living. It covers a variety of women’s topics such as: health, estate planning, balancing the farm and work. Each year new topics make up the program and Friday evening is a time to network and relax.
